Il est 5h30 du matin, mais il fait déjà chaud dans le Parc Kruger. Ce territoire de 20 000 km² est la plus grande réserve animalière d'Afrique du Sud. On ne s'y déplace qu'en voiture, car les "Big Five" rodent (éléphant, rhino, léopard, lion et buffle) et certains ne font pas de cadeaux aux visiteurs... Avec un ranger du parc cepandant, on peut se déplacer à pied. Mais les consignes sont strictes: pas de bruit et se coucher par terre s'il nous en donne le signal.
